Poem: Me, Mother, God, Guru

If I were my mother, I would say to myself, "I love you just the way you are." To my mother, I would reply, "Then what do I need to do?" And she would answer, "Nothing."

If I were my god or guru, I would say to myself, "You are perfect just the way you are." To my god or guru, I would reply, "Then what do I need to do?" And he would answer, "Realize the truth." Then I would walk away. When I returned to my mother, I would say to her nothing. I would just sit in love. When I returned to my guru, I would say to him, "Why realize the truth?" And he would answer, "To stop your suffering." Then I would walk away. When I again returned to my guru, I would say to him, "What do I do to realize the truth?" And he would answer, "Nothing." Then I would walk away. So as myself, I did these things. Then I did not return to the mother or the guru who were myself. Instead, I returned to my

Self.
